Lake Magadi Aerial Photography

Lake Magadi Aerial Photography!

In this article I will explain why I love Lake Magadi and the aerial photography there. Not far away from Nairobi, Lake Magadi offers one of the most amazing sightings in Eastern Africa.

The fantastic colours ranging from green to blue to red and pink, are simply spectacular. And the all year around flamingo population is another cherry on top of the cake! For a good aerial photography experience, you should book at least one full hour helicopter above the lake. This will give you enough time to fly over most of the lakes different parts.

What gear should you bring with you on the flight?

One thing you should keep in mind is to bring fast lenses. As you have to shoot high speeds, due to the vibrations in the helicopter, you need to make sure that your lenses are fast enough. This will allow you to compensate the high shutter speeds! I normally use a 24-70mm f2.8 or a 70-200mm f2.8 for the Lake Magadi aerial photography.

On my last private flight with a R44 gave me the opportunity to photograph the amazing colours and flamingos. The pictures are now part of the online gallery for wildlife conservation “Labyrinth Gallery” in the UK. You can visit the my gallery and many more here: www.labyrinthgallery.co.uk
